Netflix Top 10: The most-watched series in the world right now

Must read

It’s Emily Cooper’s world, and we’re all just living in it. That’s because the frothy Netflix comedy Emily in Paris, about a bubbly American expat living and working in the City of Light, is not only the #1 show on the streaming giant worldwide this week. It actually represents a full 30% of the current Top 10 TV chart that the streaming giant publishes weekly, with the newly released fourth season having sparked renewed interest in the show and pulled two earlier seasons back onto the chart.

Interestingly, the season’s strong viewership also runs counter to the reviews that it’s getting, with low critics’ and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes (for now) panning it as choppy, uneven, slow, and predictable. For now, though, it’s worth noting that there aren’t really a sufficient number of critics’ or audience ratings on the review site yet to draw any meaningful conclusions.

Emily in Paris — #1 on Netflix

Our previous coverage of Emily in Paris‘ new season is available right here. In short, the show (which is a Top 10 Netflix series this week in 93 countries) has returned to Netflix at last after a nearly two-year break and picked up after that très dramatic end to Season 3 — which included the reveal that Emily’s flirt buddy Gabriel is expecting a child with his on-again, off-again French girlfriend Camille (who’s also friends with Emily).

As far as the new season’s plot goes, according to Netflix: “After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel’s misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling (Wouldn’t you be?).

“Emily has strong feelings for two men, but Gabriel is on the verge of becoming a father, and ex boyfriend Alfie’s (Laviscount) worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed. Unfortunately, Emily and Gabriel’s chemistry is undeniable as they work together toward a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of.”
