US President Joe Biden talked to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday and announced a new package of military aid for Ukraine, the White House said.
The package includes air defense missiles to protect Ukraine’s critical infrastructure; counter-drone equipment, anti-armor missiles to defend against Russia’s evolving tactics on the battlefield; and ammunition for frontline soldiers and the mobile rocket systems, the White House said in a statement.
“I spoke with President Zelenskyy today to reaffirm this message, and to express America’s unwavering support for the people of Ukraine. For two and a half years, they have repelled Russia’s vicious onslaught, including retaking more than half of the territory Russian forces seized in the initial days of the war. They have remained unbowed in the face of Russia’s heinous war crimes and atrocities. And day after day, they have defended the values that unite people across both of our nations and around the world—including independence,” he said
Earlier today, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday to sit down for talks with Russia to end the war in Ukraine and offered to act as a friend to help bring peace as the two leaders met in wartime Kyiv.
The first visit by an Indian prime minister in modern Ukrainian history came at a volatile juncture in the war launched by Russia in February 2022. Moscow is making slow gains in eastern Ukraine as Kyiv presses a cross-border incursion.
